A couple of weeks ago, I attended a program centered around the mental state of mind, organised for women specifically. I had come across it on Instagram and made up my mind to go after realizing that I hadn’t attended such kind of event before. Not only was it very enlightening but also quite engaging.
Mental state of mind to a layman basically means the state of mind of one’s mental health. However according to the professionals, the mental state of mind has to do with the general psychological well-being of an individual. Having a healthy state of mind cannot be over emphasized. Hence the need to share some tips on having a healthy state of mind.
- Don’t internalize your problems. Say it out. Share it with a friend, family or basically, someone who cares. Just don’t keep it in.
- Be more productive not just busy. There is a thin line between being productive and being busy.
- Avoid as much unnecessary stress as possible. Certain things that threaten your mental state of health, let it go.
- Express your emotions if the need be. Cry if you need to. Expressing your emotions doesn’t make you weak. Just remember to get up stronger after.
- Most importantly, find your happy place.
“Finding your happy place” was definitely one of the things I learnt from that event. Due to our daily hustle and bustle, we tend to neglect our mental state of mind. We are of the opinion that it would fix itself. Sometimes we realize that our mental state of mind is in turmoil, but yet we do nothing about it and that’s if we are not even doing things to make it worse. Needless to say, finding your happy place is a big step towards achieving a healthy mental state of mind.
You know that moment when there is so much going on in your life. So many things on your mind, so many things that you are worrying about, be it school, career, relationship, family, kids, just name it. That moment when the stress always seem to be piling up. That moment when you know deep down that you are not emotionally alright. Though, you might not be quick to tag it as depression or anxiety as you tend to believe that these are things synonymous to every other person but certainly not you. Anyways, you get my drift. So yeah, at moments like this, all you just want is an escape. An escape from everything. Even if it is just for a short while, you just want to take a step back and relax in a safe zone. But somehow, you never get around to doing that, no thanks to your busy schedule. This is highly relatable to a lot of us. However one thing we have failed to realize is that, taking this short break, staying in that happy place for a short while is actually very important as this would provide us with the peace and strength we need to go on with our busy lives.
What or where exactly is this so-called happy place? Just as the name implies, it’s just a place that makes you happy. A place that gives you peace and tranquility. Now, don’t get it twisted, this doesn’t necessarily mean a place particularly or a travel destination (Well, i wouldn’t mind that actually 🙂 ) A happy place could be an action, a feeling, a hobby, basically anything that takes your mind away from the hustle and bustle for the time being. To some, a happy place involves a shopping spree. To others it involves chatting up with close friends, or having a day out with friends. To the nerdy ones, it involves a book, a cup of coffee and a bed!. To the sweet-tooth ones, it involves eating out. To the serene ones, it involves a quiet day at the beach. To some others, it involves an iPod with a loud headset. The point here is that though each person’s happy place differs, the relaxation and calmness it brings is what makes them all similar.
We are too busy that we don’t ever sit back to relax. We are always on the move, thinking of the next line of action, and handling emotional issues at the same time. This is more than enough reason why we really need to intensify our search for the happy place and stay there for a while. We all have a happy place but if you still doubt that or you have difficulty actually finding your happy place, here are a couple of tips to help find your happy place;
- Try to stay calm and think deeply.
- How do you relax?
- What do you enjoying doing?
- What place do you visit that gives you inner peace?
- How would your ideal happy day go?
- Whose company do you enjoy?
- What brings a smile to your face?
If you have a happy place already or when you eventually do find one, go there frequently. This helps improve your mental health and needless to say, your mental health is as important as your physical health.
I’m looking forward to reading your comments about your search for your happy place. 🙂
